Introduction-
The electric guitar is arguably the most prevalent and popular instrument of the last 50 years of American music. It has earned the dedication of millions of players who perform music ranging from Rock, Country, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Rap, Funk and virtually every genre in between.
During the last 35 years, we have also seen the instrument find a home in classrooms, conservatories and concert halls. The world of Contemporary Classical music has begun to realize the electric guitar's vast potential. Electric guitarists now find employment alongside string quartets, mixed ensembles of various sizes or even as soloists in front of full symphony orchestras.
The music in the volume aims to provide guitarists with a new concert repertoire and study material taken from some of the finest and most adaptable music of the Western Art music tradition. The selections are predominantly arranged for pick-style players, most of which will be equally beneficial to steel string-acoustic guitarists as well.
In this volume you will find both solos and duos organized in approximate order of difficulty from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. I have included brief historical commentary, as well as technical advice on playing each of the selections prior to each work. The inclusion of tablature (set with rhythm on separate pages to lessen the number of page turns) will make this music accessible to players less familiar with standard musical notation.
This book offers every level of player - from advanced beginner, to seasoned professional - a new carefully conceived and edited group of pieces that will increase any player's knowledge of, and technical proficiency on, our terrifically multifaceted instrument. - DN
